Not a Morning Person? 6 Things That Will Help You Struggle Less with Your Alarm Clock

I never thought it would happen. But small changes day by day mean I can now say I am well on my way to being a better morning person.

Many people, articles, blogs and books tell you to do this or do that if you want to be a “successful morning person.” But the real key to success lies within you. Let’s find out how.

THE KEY TO SUCCESS

Being a better morning person has a different meaning for everyone. Some may think it’s getting up at the crack of dawn, going to the gym, downing a smoothie and replying to everyone’s emails before the rest of the world is still rising from their beauty sleep.

For others, the thought of being a “morning person” doesn’t happen until they’ve had their first cup of coffee (or three) and then they’re ready to start the day. However, the key to becoming an early bird can be achieved with a good morning routine.

Everyone has a different way they like to start their day and that’s great! The more personalized your morning routine is for you, the more efficient and enjoyable it will be.

For some it may be going for a morning walk, writing down three sentences of gratitude and reading a few pages from a favorite new book. Others may find joy in taking a few minutes to visualize the day ahead, plan their ‘to-do’ list and then jump on a trampoline for 10 minutes.

Whatever sparks the most joy in your heart, is a strong indication of what your morning routine should look like. I call it my empowering method. For me it’s waking up early around 7, oil pulling first thing in the morning, meditating for 15 minutes and stepping onto my yoga mat for an early morning flow.

Knowing I am taking this time for myself allows me to lay down a solid foundation for my day ahead and keeps my mind and body in a healthy alignment.

If you’re a little lost on where to start, I recommend writing down a big self-care list of everything that makes you feel like you’re nurturing your inner being. Add as many things as you like, no list is too big! It can be anything like.

Here is how you can create an empowering routine:

1. Meditation

I recommend the Headspace and Simple Habit app or online guided meditation for beginners. You can find these on Youtube or podcasts.

2. Morning Yoga Flow

Yoga With Adriene is by far my favorite online yoga channel. Adriene keeps things fun, while also helping you to connect mind and body. Best of all, it’s free!

3. Enjoy Breakfast Outside

I love eating breakfast outside. The power of nature, sun, and good food. What more could you need?

4. Listen To Podcasts

For a new and inspiring perspective on life! Podcasts are one of the most convenient and fun ways to explore and learn. I download a few for when I’m traveling in the car, going for a walk, even while cleaning the house. My favorite podcasts are Master Mind Body and Spirit by Matthew Belair and anything by Abraham Hicks.

5. Buy Yourself Flowers

Buy yourself a bunch of flowers or have a plant in your room for good Feng Shui. Nature, as we know, has amazing benefits on our mood. Introducing plants into your space will not only improve your well-being, but helps to filter the air and enhance the quality of sleep.

6. Dancing To Your Favourite Music

“You’ve gotta dance like nobody is watching” ― William W. Purkey

One of the easiest ways to exercise and have fun. I started with small movements around my bedroom but the more I realized how good I felt, the more creative and expressive I became! You may feel silly, but just close your door and your blinds (unless you’re happy to do a free show for the neighbors) and feel the freedom of moving your body, getting in a good workout and just having a good time.

Whatever is empowering for you will ultimately bring you the most joy, and in turn more happiness from life itself. By keeping a healthy habit of your empowering routine, you’ll be well on your way to becoming a better morning person and experience a greater flow of life.
